System 1 wants the answer now
Thinking, Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman
Kahneman’s distinction between fast intuition and slow reasoning keeps showing up in how I build and how I use AI.
Reading Kahneman again made me notice how often product and engineering decisions get made in System 1 mode: fast, confident, and emotionally satisfying.
That is fine for reversible choices. It is dangerous for architecture, hiring, and anything where the cost of being wrong compounds over time.
The confidence you feel is not evidence that you thought carefully.
What I took from the book this time is not skepticism toward intuition. It is discipline about when to pause and force System 2 into the room — especially when the tooling makes it easy to move on before the reasoning is done.
